Workshops and participatory installations for the Lichtenfels democracy festiva
The city of Lichtenfels is organising a diverse, colourful democracy festival on 25.8.24 on the sports field in Rhadern, which will shed light on many aspects of our democracy and our coexistence and encourage participation.
To mark the occasion, the ‘bewegter wind’ association is inviting all Lichtenfels citizens, committees and clubs to take part in workshops from (ff1 6 - 27.8.24, ff2 16 - 18.8.24), where they can design and erect flags together. Everyone is encouraged to take part who wants to talk to each other beyond the boundaries of clubs and neighbourhoods, design flags together and fly the flag for democracy.
We thematise diversity and democracy in rural areas. Through the workshops and the day of action, we encourage a conscious debate through encounters and shared creative experiences. Another demonstration of democratic civic diversity and political participation opportunities: As a counterpart to large crowds in central city squares, we show moving images of diversity in a wide landscape.
The workshops will be about designing, cutting fabric, sewing, sanding, taping and preparing bamboo poles, finding places, planning exhibitions, hammering in iron poles, mounting flags with poles, or preparing snacks for the active participants. Everyone can try out everything, or just what they like. You can be there for three hours or three days. We look forward to welcoming curious people and want to set a colourful example for democracy and diversity. A warm invitation to join in!

Workshop ‘colourful 1’ (26.-28.7.2024) in the clubhouse in Sachsenberg with subsequent installation of 7 flags in each of 8 districts.
A short introduction gives ideas and supports the joint design. Fabrics in all the colours of the rainbow are sewn together to make colourful flags. Using iron and bamboo poles, the flags are installed in the neighbourhoods in clearly visible urban areas. Here is the link to the results, which are now flying in all neighbourhoods.
Workshop ‘colourful 2’ (16.-18.8.2024) Approx. 63 flag ribbons are sewn in the clubhouse and set up near Rhadern.
All possible colours are visible in the rainbow. They symbolise diversity. The participants sew simple flag ribbons (approx. 50cm x 5m wide) in all seven colours and approx. nine per colour. This will result in at least 63 flags, which we will erect with 6m high flagpoles near the Rhadern sports ground. Together we will decide how the variety of colours will be developed and placed in the landscape.
This participatory installation will remain on display until the Lichtenfels Democracy Festival. A joint drone photo with all citizens of Lichtenfels on 25 August is planned.
The workshops will take place on 26 - 28 July and 16 - 18 August 24 on Fridays from 6 pm,
on Saturdays from 10 am - 6 pm and on Sundays by arrangement in the clubhouse ‘bewegter wind’,

Workshop ‘Showing the flag for democracy and diversity’ on 25.8.24 in Rhadern
During the day of action, visitors will be able to colour prepared flags with a democracy and diversity theme. These flags will then be on display in the local neighbourhoods.
