Wind farm Söhrewald

Kassel-Oberzwehren: Schenkelsberg

In the south of Kassel in the Oberzwehren district, the Schenkelsberg and the earth wall along the A44 motorway together with the adjacent residential areas form a unique site for the wind art festival. Old cultural landscape, technical landscape (earth wall and motorway), North Hessian mountainous region and various urban sceneries form the stage for wind art. In the south Oberzwehren borders on the town of Baunatal. Two mountains, the Mattenberg (224.6 m above sea level) and the Schenkelsberg (217.9 m above sea level) are characteristic for the appearance. The Baunsberg on the side of the Baunatal district of Altenbauna lies beyond the A49 motorway and divides the Kassel districts of Nordshausen and Oberzwehren on the northern border. North of Oberzwehren is the extensive nature reserve of the Dönche. The Schenkelsberg and the Mattenberg settlement on the outskirts of Kassel have an eventful history. Also the adjacent landscape around the Schenkelsberg received a new sign. This artificial earth stratification is also the most recent time stratification of this suburban landscape. The walk researcher Bertram Weisshaar has developed an exciting talk walk, which can be heard live on 24.8.,14:30 and as mp3 here: www.talk-walks.de

Wind farm Söhrewald

At the extreme southeast of the district of Kassel lies the community of Söhrewald. With the districts Wellerode, Wattenbach and Eiterhagen. The forest-covered mountain range of the Söhre extends from the eastern bank of the Fulda to the Stiftswald. In the Warpel wind farm in the community of Söhrewald, a completely different landscape experience awaits the exhibition visitors. The mixed forest is characterised by cosy forest cabins, wide forest paths and clearings created by windthrow or natural forest rejuvenation, and time-honoured habitat trees are placed in relation to contemporary art. The play of sizes and perspectives between landscape and forest, between wind turbines, exhibits and trees creates additional attractions. A wonderful view of Kassel and the Hercules is worth mentioning.

Parking: Hiker's car park Schwarzer Markt on the road to Dörnhagen/Bebra
KVG bus line 17: Fuldabrück/ Kiliansblick
Two forest paths to the exhibition from wind turbine 2 are marked with blue ribbons from the Bergshausen/Dörnhagen road.
